5 Fun & Easy Space Week Crafts

This past summer we added Space Week to our curriculum and it was such a hit with the kids! What is great about this theme is that you can do this any time of the year. Here are five simple space themed crafts we did that are easy and inexpensive.

Alien Spaceship Craft
Materials:
white paper plate
gold and green acrylic paint
black sharpie
paint brush
pencil
scissors
Take a white paper plate and cut the rim from the top half. Using the brush, color the bottom rim with gold paint. Wash brush and using the green paint to color the palm of the hand. Add the handprint to the middle of the plate. Once the green handprint drys, draw eyes and mouth of the alien using the black sharpie. Taddaaaa you got yourself an alien spaceship.


Handprint Rocket Ship
Materials:
blue acrylic paint
markers or crayons: red, orange, yellow and black
white paper
pencil
Paint the palm of the hand blue (or color of your choice). Add the handprint to the middle of the white paper. Use the pencil to draw 3 triangles (one on top and one to each side of the handprint). Using black marker or crayon, draw a square in the middle of the palm with dots around it. Using same black marker, draw 2 rectangles under palm with lines. With the yellow marker, draw curved lines under the rectangles. Then above the yellow, draw similar lines in orange to create fire. No your rocket is ready to take off!

Planet Craft
Materials:
black construction paper
acrylic crayons
pencil
On black construction paper draw 8 circles all different sizes (the planets) and a half circle in one for the the sun. Using the crayons, have the child color the half circle color yellow and the smaller circle all different colors. Pick 1 to 4 circles and with the white crayon draw an oval around it (planetary ring). The planets with rings are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These rings vary in their composition and size. Complete your space planet drawing making dots for the little stars in the galaxy.


Paper Plate Rocket Ship
Materials:
paper streamers
colorful construction paper
white paper
glue
scissor
sharpie
ruler
Cut out cute little stars from the different color construction paper. Then cut out 2 inch triangles, rectangles and circles. Using the ruler and black sharpie, on a white paper draw two parallel lines about 2 inches apart and 4 inches long. Glue the triangle on top of the lines, the circle on the middle and the rectangle at the end of the lines. On each side of the bottom of the lines glue one triangle sideways. Glue on stars around the rocket ship. And there you have it!

Moon and Stars
Materials:
yellow acrylic crayons
pencil
black construction paper
different size cookie cutters (optional)
Use a pencil to trace different size stars onto the black construction paper. In a side corner draw a quarter moon. Use the yellow acrylic crayons to color inside mom and stars. And there you have a very easy and quick moon and stars drawings.
